Programme Note
MARCHE MACABRE (1983). For mixed choir - and instruments (ad lib.) The song is my contribution to the Peace movements of the 1980s, and so it has a simple dramatic expression. The song may be performed with a small choreographic design, procession, dance or the like. The music has an ambiguity and balances between the Frere Jaques-melody, Gustav Mahlers ironic and tragic variation on the same, the clowns march in Nino Rota´s music for Fellini´s film “8 ½” and other marches. The text is by the Danish poet Jørgen Gustava Brandt, and is sung in Danish. Per Nørgård
Work information: Marche macabre - sung in Danish - is part of PER NØRGÅRD: KORBOGEN (THE CHORAL BOOK), but also available as a special order. The song may also be performed for voice (or unisono voices), the other parts (ATB) played by instruments.
