Knudåge Riisager

Knudåge Riisager (1987-1974) was born in Port Kunda, Estonia, but already returned to Denmark with his family at the age of three. After studying political science at the University of Copenhagen as well as music theory and composition with Otto Malling and Peder Gram, he balanced a career in central administration with a career in music. After studying in Copenhagen Riisager went to Paris, where he studied composition from 1921-23 with Albert Roussel and Paul le Flem. During his stay in Paris he came into contact with the group Les Six and also became acquainted with the music of, among others, Stravinsky. In 1932 Riisager studied in Leipzig with Hermann Grabner. Riisager differs from his Danish colleagues by his international orientation. This is in part due to the influence his stays in Paris and Leipzig had on Riisager,
